Laser Micrometer
|
A laser micrometer is a high accuracy micrometer that uses a laser to make extremely accurate precision measurements. With the use of the optical sensors, a laser micrometer can measure round objects and non-round objects. Some of the advantages of using a laser micrometer are:
- Ability to measure very small objects such as 0.3mm
- High sampling rates for accurate measurements
- Super fine measurement accuracy to 0.5 micro meters
- Ability to measure objects without contact
The uses and applications for laser micrometers are wide and many. The most common application thought of is to measure the diameter of a round object. With computer software, laser micrometers can automate the measuring function. This makes laser micro meters ideal for applications such as quality control in a assembly or manufacturing process. Some examples of applications ideal for laser micrometers are:
- Measuring a pipe diameter for the entire length of the pipe
- Simultaneous measurements of diameter and eccentricity
- Measuring the width and edge position of a glass plate
